Aab e Hayat (آب حیات) means “Elixir of Life” is a novel written by Umera Ahmad. It is the sequel of the best seller novel Peer e Kamil. It is the second part of the lives of Salar Sikandar and Imama Hashim (the lead characters of Peer e Kamil).
Umera Ahmad says that the purpose of writing this book was to, stop those who are going on the wrong path. Make them re-think their way. Salar and Imama travel the same journey that we all do. We all try to make a heaven on this earth, the same heaven from where we were ousted. Even knowing that our home in this world is just like Bait-al-Ankaboot i.e. Spider’s Home. Then the struggle to give and take throughout the life. What we have to lose to win something. Then whirling around success, our dreams, and desires. Then the next stage is testing when we pass through difficult times only then we remember ALLAH.
The idea of the novel is based on the last sermon delivered by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W). The story analyzes lives of Salar and Imama after marriage. The novel also answers the questions that Peer e Kamil left unanswered. Questions about lives of Hashim Family.
The novel mainly addresses two social problems:
- Hazards of interest-based economic system and it’s prohibition in Islam.
- The Muslims who have all the knowledge but don’t apply it to their lives.
Salar’s school and home burn in Africa. Salar realizes that his earning are interest-based, so Haram. He learns about UN and IMF and starts a new company SIF.
Then we see the hypocrisy of Ahsan Saad and Ayesha’s depressing life story. The story also shows the character of Jibrail and how Eric converted to Islam and became Abdullah. Especially the conversation between Jibrail and Ayesha was great. However the story does not give complete information about SIF and TAI. Many people did not get the whole idea about the last scene of “TURUP KA PATTA”. Although the author explained it but it remained unclear.
