Khuda Ki Basti (Urdu: خدا کی بستی) is an Urdu novel by Shaukat Siddiqui of 1957. The Novel is about slums created after the creation of Pakistan and struggles of people living in them. Serials were made in 1969 and 1974 based on the novel.
Shaukat Siddiqui (Urdu: شوکت صدیقی) was a Pakistani writer of fiction who wrote in Urdu. He is best known for his novels Khuda Ki Basti (خدا کی بستی) (translated as God’s Own Land) and Jangloos.
A modern classic of Urdu literature by Shaukat Siddiqui, Khuda Ki Basti (God’s Own Land), takes place during the 1950s in the slums of Karachi and Lahore in a newly independent Pakistan. The story revolves around a poor, respectable family which has fallen on hard times. Corruption and degradation take over their lives. Jobless, and without any real hope of a better life, they find themselves in the clutches of unprincipled entrepreneurs who exploit them. The tragic, deeply moving finale is inevitable.
